App Launchers LLC ("we", "us", or "our") operates the Ghostwriter application and website. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and your choices regarding your data.

1. Information We Collect

Account Information

When you sign in with Apple, we receive:

A unique user identifier (Apple ID token)
Your name (if you choose to share it)
Your email address (if you choose to share it, or Apple's private relay address)

We do not collect passwords. Authentication is handled entirely through Apple's Sign in with Apple service. You are not required to sign in to purchase Book Credits — credits can be purchased on this device alone, with sign-in offered (not required) afterward to sync them across your devices.

Age Range

Ghostwriter requires users to be at least 13 years old. To verify this, after sign-in we ask for your age range using Apple's Declared Age Range API. We only receive whether you are 13 or older — never your exact age, birthday, or birth year. For users in a Family Sharing group, a parent or guardian controls whether age information is shared.

Book Content You Create

When you use Ghostwriter, you provide content including:

Book titles and topic descriptions
Table of contents and chapter structures
Typed answers to interview questions
Audio recordings of your voice during voice interviews
Photos you upload for AI vision analysis (caption + content extraction)
Documents and other files you upload (PDFs, audio, etc.)
Writing style preferences and configuration
Section drafts and revision requests

Purchase Information

In-app purchases are processed entirely by Apple. We receive a transaction confirmation and your account-linked credit balance. We do not collect or store payment card details, billing addresses, or other financial information.

Diagnostic Telemetry

The app keeps a rolling, in-memory log (200 events maximum) of AI request metadata: model identifier, request duration, and character counts of inputs and outputs. This log never contains your book content. It is stored locally on the device for diagnostics and is not transmitted to our servers unless you explicitly export it via Settings.

2. How We Use Your Information

To Provide the Service

Account management: Your Apple ID identifier is used to authenticate you and associate your books and credits with your account.
Book creation: Your book content is stored in our database (Google Firebase Firestore) so you can access it across your devices.
Credit tracking: We track your Book Credit balance to manage in-app purchase entitlements.

AI-Powered Content Generation

Ghostwriter uses artificial intelligence to help you write your book. The following data flows through three distinct AI providers:

AIProxy — first-hop secure proxy

All AI requests are routed through AIProxy (aiproxy.pro), a privacy-respecting proxy service that authenticates our requests with the underlying AI providers. AIProxy does not retain request bodies beyond standard logging required for service operation. AIProxy commits to data protections equivalent to those required by the App Store. OpenAI — text, image, and transcription

OpenAI (openai.com) receives:

Book title, topic, table of contents, and chapter/section structure
Typed answers to interview questions
Photos you upload (for AI vision: caption + content extraction)
Audio recordings (for transcription via Whisper)
Documents you upload (for text extraction)
Writing style preferences
Section drafts when you request rewrites

When accessed via the OpenAI API (as Ghostwriter does), OpenAI does not use your data to train its models. OpenAI commits to data protections equivalent to those required by the App Store. See OpenAI's privacy policy.

xAI — live voice conversation

During the voice interview feature only, your microphone audio is streamed in real time to xAI (x.ai) for the live voice conversation. xAI receives the audio and conversation context for that session only; we do not retain xAI conversation transcripts on our servers. xAI commits to data protections equivalent to those required by the App Store. See xAI's privacy policy. If you do not use the voice interview feature, xAI receives no data.

What is never sent to any AI provider

Your Apple ID or email address
Payment or billing information
Device identifiers or location data
Any personal data unrelated to your book

Consent

Before any AI feature is reachable in the app, Ghostwriter presents an in-app consent sheet that names AIProxy, OpenAI, and xAI and describes exactly what data each receives. You must agree before proceeding. You can review this disclosure or withdraw consent at any time in the app's Settings; withdrawing consent will prevent AI features from functioning.

3. Data Storage and Security

Your book content and account information are stored in Google Firebase Firestore, a cloud database operated by Google. Data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest. Firebase infrastructure is hosted in the United States. Google Firebase commits to data protections equivalent to those required by the App Store; see Firebase's privacy and security commitments.

Uploaded files (audio, photos, documents) are stored in Firebase Cloud Storage with the same encryption and access controls. You can delete uploaded files at any time within the app, and account deletion (described below) removes them on a 30-day cleanup schedule.

We implement commercially reasonable security measures to protect your data, including secure API proxying, encrypted storage, and per-user access controls enforced by Firebase Security Rules.

4. Data Sharing

We share your data only with the following third parties, and only as described above:

AIProxy (aiproxy.pro) — routes AI requests securely
OpenAI (openai.com) — receives book content for text generation, transcription, and image analysis
xAI (x.ai) — receives audio for the live voice interview feature only
Google Firebase (firebase.google.com) — hosts your account data and book content
Apple — processes in-app purchases and authentication

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to any third party. We do not share data for advertising purposes.

5. Data Retention and Deletion

Your book content and account data are retained as long as your account is active.

You can delete your account and all associated data at any time, in-app, from Settings → Delete Account & All Data. Deletion is immediate and irreversible. We will:

Delete your account and every book, chapter, section, content input, rewrite request, analysis, and author profile from Firebase Firestore immediately
Remove your Sign in with Apple identity from Ghostwriter immediately
Schedule cleanup of uploaded files (audio, photos, documents) from Firebase Cloud Storage within 30 days
Request deletion of any files stored with OpenAI in accordance with their retention policies

6. Your Rights

Depending on your jurisdiction (including under GDPR in the EU/UK and CCPA in California), you have the right to:

Access the personal data we hold about you
Correct inaccurate information — edit your name in-app at Settings → Account
Delete your account and data — available in-app at Settings → Delete Account & All Data
Export your book content — available in-app at Settings → Export My Data, which produces a self-contained .zip archive of your books, chapters, sections, content inputs, and account profile in JSON format
Withdraw consent for AI data sharing — available in-app at Settings → Withdraw AI Consent (note: this prevents AI features from functioning until consent is given again)

7. Children's Privacy

Ghostwriter is intended for users aged 13 and older. To enforce this, after Sign in with Apple the app uses Apple's Declared Age Range API to verify the user is 13 or older. Users who are confirmed under 13 (or whose parent/guardian declares them as such in Family Sharing) are blocked from all AI features.

We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us at privacy@applaunchers.com and we will delete it promptly.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by updating the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page. Your continued use of Ghostwriter after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
